Hydro Tasmania employees, with help from Tasmanian Devils Football Club players, were subjected to the razor and spray can today to raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.
As part of the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave charity event, 28 Hydro Tasmania employees took part in the event, with nine going under the clippers in the capable hands of Devils’ players.
Hydro Tasmania Corporation Secretary, Alan Evans, compering the event, praised the participation by employees.
“Our people from all parts of our business have participated today and have raised over $3000 for this very worthy cause,” Mr Evans said.
“Hydro Tasmania has supported the Leukaemia Foundation for many years and our people have a long tradition of being involved in charity and community activities.
“We are the leader in renewable energy and a contributor towards the development of new renewable energy technologies to provide a better quality of life for our communities.
“Accordingly, it is very gratifying to be able to raise funds that will advance research into this invidious disease and improve the lives of sufferers and their loved ones.”
AFL Tasmania General Manager, Scott Wade, praised the fundraising efforts of the participants and the skilful handiwork of his players in managing the clippers and spray cans.
“We were very pleased to be invited to participate in this event today and I understand there were bounties out on a number of scalps. While we don’t normally condone scalping, our players were happy to oblige in this case.
“As two Tasmanian icons, it is appropriate to get together for this worthy event.”
Tasmanian Devils Ben Fagan, Tom Collier, Oliver Di Venuto, Jason Howard and Ben Careless assisted with the clippers and the spray cans.
Funds raised from the World’s Greatest Shave will help provide information and resources, education and support programs as well as practical assistance and ‘away from home’ accommodation.
